10 Years Of PMJDY Scheme: The central government’s Jan Dhan Yojana has completed 10 years today. The scheme was launched on August 28, 2014, with an aim to ensure access to formal banking for everyone. The scheme was launched with an integrated approach to bring comprehensive financial inclusion to all the households in the country. 

The scheme has proven highly successful, with over 53.1 crore beneficiaries as of August 14, 2024. The total deposits have surpassed Rs 2.3 lakh crore, reflecting the scheme's significant impact. Notably, nearly 30 of these beneficiaries are women, highlighting the scheme’s role in empowering women and fostering financial inclusion across the nation.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the scheme and called it a success. “Today, we mark a momentous occasion— #10YearsOfJanDhan. Jan Dhan Yojana has been paramount in boosting financial inclusion and giving dignity to crores of people, especially women, youth, and the marginalized communities,” he said.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also hailed the scheme and said, “Today, we mark a momentous occasion— #10YearsOfJanDhan. Congratulations to all the beneficiaries and compliments to all those who worked to make this scheme a success."

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme represents India's mission for financial inclusion, designed to ensure broad access to affordable financial services for nearly every citizen. This initiative encompasses a variety of services, including:

Banking Services: Offering essential financial products such as savings and deposit accounts, remittances, credit facilities, insurance, and pension schemes.

Financial Inclusion: Enabling mobile transactions through partnerships with telecom operators and their Cash Out Points.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Facilitating the seamless transfer of government benefits directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts from central, state, and local government bodies.

Digital Innovations: Linking bank accounts with mobile phone numbers and Aadhaar, India's unique identification system, to enhance accessibility and security.
