Ashneer Grover, the founder of BharatPe and Third Unicorn, expressed his support for the principle of “hire quickly, fire quickly,” emphasizing his dislike for lengthy hiring procedures and notice periods. While on the podcast, he criticized the standard procedure of companies devoting a significant amount of time to recruit a candidate, only to offer them an extended period to prove themselves. Grover asserted that this strategy is inefficient and time-consuming.

He explained that recruiting often entails multiple rounds of interviews, during which candidates put on their best behavior and essentially exhibit their abilities like salespeople. According to Grover, just once a candidate has been assigned tasks, one can evaluate their suitability for the role.

Grover drew on his own experience to note that businesses sometimes spend three months finding the perfect candidate, followed by a two-month notice period. This essentially amounts to a six-month investment. Once a candidate begins, companies are inclined to give them another six months to prove themselves. This whole year-long process frequently results in the realization that the candidate is not a good fit, resulting in a significant opportunity cost.

Grover argues for a simpler approach: make prompt hiring choices within a week to 15 days and quickly assess the candidate's performance. He believes it is simple to distinguish who is successful and who is not, and thus supports his “hire fast, fire fast” philosophy.

Ashneer Grover has been in the news ever since he entered as a shark in Shark Tank India season 1 and then when he was removed from the show in the second edition. He made headlines several times before with his comments on industry-related issues and his feud with BharatPe management.
