Bank Strike January 27: Several unions affiliated with the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) have called for a strike to press their long-pending demand for a five-day work week with two days off.

According to the unions, talks with the Central government and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) have been going on for a long time without any concrete outcome. They argue that, like other government offices, banks should also adopt a five-day work system to ensure better work-life balance for employees.

What Services Will Be Suspended

The strike could affect the following services:

-Cheque clearance

-Cash deposits and withdrawals

-Branch customer services

-Loan and document-related work

However, ATMs, UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking are likely to continue functioning normally.

Which Banks Will Be Affected?

Sources indicate the strike will mainly impact public sector banks. Private banks and cooperative banks may see limited disruption, though the situation could vary locally.

What Unions Are Saying

The unions say increasing workload and staff shortages are putting immense pressure on employees. Implementing a five-day work week would not only provide relief to staff but also help improve the quality of services.
