Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, Vice President of L'Oréal, has become the first woman to join the $100 billion club, with her net worth reaching $100.1 billion. After briefly surpassing the $100 billion mark in May, a rise in L'Oréal's share price on Wednesday solidified its position at the top. Bettencourt-Myers, 70, owns nearly 35% of L'Oréal with her husband and two sons, and credits most of her wealth to her stake in the cosmetics giant.

L'Oréal saw its stock price surge in April after beating first-quarter sales expectations, with the stock price increasing by more than 5% in a single day. The company has achieved success in recent years through strategic acquisitions, such as the Australian cosmetics brand Aesop. Bettencourt Myers, the granddaughter of L'Oréal founder Eugene Schueller, rose to the ranks of the wealthy in 2018 after the death of her mother, a former L'Oréal shareholder. Her wealth has increased by about $58 billion since she first appeared on Forbes' list.

Despite her enormous wealth and status as the richest woman in the world for the past four years, Bettencourt-Myers has chosen to keep a low profile, focusing on her passions for writing and playing the piano. She joins a select group of billionaires, with 16 individuals now crossing the $100 billion mark. The collective wealth of these individuals has increased by almost 40% since 2023, representing 15% of the total wealth of billionaires worldwide.

The surge in wealth among the global elite reflects a broader trend of increasing wealth accumulation, with a record number of individuals entering the ranks of billionaires in recent years. Bettencourt-Myers' success with L'Oréal mirrors that of other members of the $100 billion club, as they continue to amass wealth through their respective industries. Despite her enormous wealth, Bettencourt-Myers remains dedicated to her interests and maintains a discreet public presence in contrast to her high-profile position.
