Budget 2026: Clearing the confusion around, if the Budget for the upcoming financial year 2026-27 will be tabled in Lok Sabha on as usual on February 1 as the day falls on a Sunday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday confirmed that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the national budget in Parliament on Sunday, February 1.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Budget Session will begin on January 28, as previously confirmed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The session will begin when President Draupadi Murmu addresses a joint session of both houses of Parliament on the first day of the budget debate.

Sitharaman's 9th Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget for the record ninth time, just one short of former Finance Minister Morarji Desai's record of ten budget presentations.

Economic Survey To Be Presented

The Parliamentary Budget Session will begin on January 28, with President Draupadi Murmu addressing members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha (Council of Houses of Parliament) gathered in the House of Representatives. Following the President's address, Sitharaman is expected to present the Economic Survey in both houses of the Parliament.

Budget Session 2026

Now it's confirmed, Sitharaman will present the National Budget on February 1, which the government has designated as Budget Day since 2017. Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kirin Rijiju said the Budget Session would begin on January 28 and continue until April 2. The first part of the session will end on February 13 and then resume on March 9, giving parliamentary committees sufficient time to examine the budget proposals.

Govt Seeks Common Citizens' Suggestions

For the Union Budget 2026–27, the government has invited the public to share their views on issues like taxation, inflation, employment, education, healthcare, and economic growth. Announced through MyGov’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, this initiative encourages people from all sections of society to submit their ideas on the MyGov platform until January 16, allowing citizens to play an active role in shaping national policy ahead of the budget presentation on February 1.
