EPFO News: The deadline for linking Universal Account Number (UAN) and bank accounts with Aadhaar for employees associated with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has been extended. Employees now have till February 15 to complete this mandatory process. The deadline was earlier set at January 15 and has been extended several times.
A Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique and permanent 12-digit number assigned to every member of an EPFO. This number remains the same throughout an employee’s career, irrespective of job changes. Activating a UAN is crucial to access various EPFO services.
Why is UAN activation important?
- Once a UAN is activated, employees can easily manage their Provident Fund (PF) accounts online. Key benefits include:
- To view and download the PF passbook.
- To apply online for PF withdrawal, lodgement or transfer.
- To update self-registered details.
- TocCheck the status of your claim in real-time.
Additionally, employees with an active UAN number can avail of benefits under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. This government initiative offers financial incentives to employers and new employees in the private sector. Currently, the scheme applies to employees who have joined during the current financial year. However, existing employees are expected to be updated in the next phase.
Steps to Activate Your UAN Number
Follow these simple steps to activate your UAN number:
- Visit the official EPFO portal at unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in.
- Click on the ‘Activate UAN Number’ option.
- Enter your UAN number, registered mobile number and date of birth.
- Solve the verification code and click on ‘Get Authorization PIN’.
- You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and verify it.
- Once verified, your UAN number will be activated. You will also receive a User ID and Password to access EPFO services.
Employees are advised to complete this process immediately to avoid disruptions in accessing their PF accounts or other EPFO services.
