Passport Application Process: If you want to go abroad and have not gotten your passport yet. Then the first thing you need to do is apply for a passport and it has become easy as you can do this yourself. The government has now made the process of making a passport very easy so that one should not be paying a lot of money to an agent to get a passport. To get a passport you need to have certain documents. In this article, we have discussed the process of applying for a passport online and the documents needed to apply for it.  

Documents required for making a passport

- You need to have a 10th mark sheet, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID card, or driving license any one of these documents to certify your date of birth.
- Address proof-  Electricity or water bill, income tax department's assessment order, ration card, voter ID, Aadhaar card, bank passbook.
- Annexure format-1- Affidavit of Indian citizenship and no criminal record.

How much does it cost to apply for a passport-  To get a passport, you will have to pay a fee of Rs 1500 to 2000. There is an additional fee for an instant passport.

How to apply for a passport Online

- Visit the Passport Seva website https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in.

- Click on the New User box. This will take you to the registration page.

- Click here to visit the Passport Seva website. Select the passport office in the city where you live. Make sure you have typed your name exactly as it appears on your document. The rest of the form is very simple. It is no different from signing up on any other website.

- Click on Register when done.

- Now that you have created your account, go back to the Passport Seva website.

- Click on the green Login button.

- Enter your email ID and click on Continue.

- Type in your email, password, and the characters in the image. Click on Login after this.

- Click on Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport.

- You have two options. You can download the form, fill it out, and then upload it back to the website, or you can fill it out online.  that you fill out the form online.

-  If you want to fill out the form online, click on the option Click here to fill out the application form online. This is available in Alternative 2 pages. We recommend that you select this option because it is the easiest way to apply for a passport.

-  On the next page, you will have to choose between a new passport or re-issue, normal or tatkal, 38 pages or 60 pages. Select the option according to your convenience and requirements and then click on the Next page.

- You will have to provide personal information on the next page. Keep in mind that the information you are providing should match your documents perfectly.

- After filling out the form, click on the Submit Application button in the lower right corner.

- After filling out the form, go back to the web page mentioned in step number 9 again.

- Click on View Saved/Submitted Applications.

- You will be able to see the application that you submitted a while ago. Click on the radio button next to it. After this, click on Pay and Schedule Appointment.

- Select Online Payment and click on Next. Now the list of passport seva kendras in your city will appear on the screen. It will also mention the nearest date and time for an appointment.

- Select an option as per your convenience from the drop-down menu next to PSK Location.

- After this, type the characters in the image. Click on Next after this.

- Click on Pay and Book Appointment.

- This will take you to the payment gateway page. As soon as your payment is complete, you will be taken back to the Passport Seva website.

- Now you will see a page that says Appointment Confirmation. This page will have all the details of the appointment you received from the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

- Click on Print Application Receipt. On the next page, you will be able to see a detailed view of your application. Click on Print Application Receipt again.

- On the next page, you will be able to see a preview of the receipt. Click on Print Application Receipt again. After this, you will be able to take a printout of your appointment confirmation.

- You will need a printout of this receipt to enter the passport service center. You should now reach the passport service center at the scheduled time.
