Melinda French Gates stepped down from her role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, stating that it's time for her to begin a new phase in her charitable work. While announcing her resignation, Gates highlighted the importance of supporting women's rights globally. The resignation came nearly three years after Bill Gates and Melinda Gates announced that they were getting divorced in May 2021.

"After careful thought and reflection, I have decided to resign from my role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My last day of work at the foundation will be June 7th. This is not a decision I came to lightly. I am immensely proud of the foundation that Bill and I built together, and of the extraordinary work it is doing to address inequities worldwide," Melinda stated in a post on the microblogging site X.

Melinda further wrote about her deep care and love for the foundation and the work it has done to touch the lives of millions of people around the globe.

"I care deeply about the foundation team, our partners around the world, and everyone who is touched by its work. I am taking this step with full confidence that the foundation is in strong shape, with its extremely capable CEO Mark Suzman, the Executive Leadership Team, and an experienced board of trustees in place to ensure all its important work continues," she added.

Melinda French Gates hinted at her ongoing commitment to support women and families. She also referred to a $12.5 billion package she is set to receive from the foundation as per the terms of her agreement.

"This is a critical moment for women and girls in the US and around the world those fighting to protect and advance equality are in urgent need of support," she said.
