Stock Market: Equity mutual funds recorded a record inflow of Rs 41,887 crore in October, up by more than 21 per cent on a month-on-month basis, buoyed by strong investments in thematic funds. The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) data on Monday showed that this was the 44th consecutive month of net inflows by equity-oriented funds, highlighting the ever-growing appeal of mutual funds among investors.
These October numbers are truly extraordinary, particularly against the backdrop of a steep market correction. Equity flows were bolstered by a strong market performance earlier this year but suffered a sharp reversal in October.
Overall, the mutual fund industry witnessed an inflow of Rs 2.4 lakh crore in the month under review after outflows of Rs 71,114 crore in September.
The industry's net assets under management increased from Rs 6.7 lakh crore in September to Rs 67.25 lakh crore last month. According to the data, equity-oriented schemes witnessed inflows of Rs 41,887 crore in October as against Rs 34,419 crore in September. Earlier in June, equity scheme inflows stood at Rs 40,608 crore.
