December Retail Inflation Data:  According to official data released by the National Statistics Office on Friday, retail inflation rose to a four-month high of 5.69 per cent in December 2023. The higher food prices resulted in the high inflation number.

Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation was 5.55 per cent in November 2023 and 5.72 per cent in December 2022. However, Inflation reached 6.83 per cent in August last year i.e. 2023.

According to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO), retail inflation in the food basket stood at 9.53 per cent in December 2023, up from 8.7 per cent in the previous month and 4.9 per cent in the previous month.

The government has tasked the Reserve Bank of India to ensure that the retail inflation rate remains at 4 per cent.
