Tesla Hiring In India: US electric car maker Tesla has started hiring for roles in India including business operations analysts and customer support specialists, which could be a prelude to the company’s entry into the country. According to the job advertisement on the company's website, the posts are for the 'Mumbai Suburban' area.

Hiring Profile

Service Advisor: Candidates with an associate degree or certificate in automotive technology are preferred.

Service Technician: 1-3 years of experience in a dealership setting and 3-5 years of experience in the automotive industry.

Parts Advisor: Automotive technology degree or certification or equivalent experience. 1-3 years in the automotive industry.

Service Manager: Leadership experience in a service-based industry is required; Automotive expertise is not mandatory.

Store Manager: 8+ years of experience in retail, sales, or key account management, with a proven track record of achieving goals. At least 3 years of team management experience.

Customer Support Supervisor: Strong communication skills in English and a good hold of local languages. Supervisory experience in customer support can be a plus.

Business Operations Analyst: The candidate must be proficient in business systems, MS Office, and Excel. Must be fluent in English and local languages.

Customer Support Specialist: At least 2 years experience in automotive technical support. Associate Degree or Certification in Automotive Technology preferred.

Delivery Management Specialist: At least 3 years experience in a related role and strong organizational and communication skills.

Inside Sales Advisor: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant customer-facing experience may be considered instead of a degree.

 

Customer Engagement Manager: The candidate should have 7+ years of experience in marketing and consumer engagement. He/She should be working preferably for a lifestyle brand.

Elon Musk to Visit India

In April, company founder and American tech billionaire Elon Musk postponed a last-minute visit to India due to “very heavy Tesla obligations” but hoped the proposed visit would lead to Musk announcing plans to go ahead with Tesla’s electric car sales in India.

His visit to India comes weeks after the government announced a new electric vehicle policy, under which companies setting up manufacturing units in the country with a minimum investment of US$500 million will be given import duty waivers, a move aimed at attracting major global players like Tesla.

Tesla Representative Attends Meeting

The adviser representing Tesla - Asia Group (TAG) is also Vietnamese EV maker WinFast and new EVs with all major Indian manufacturers including Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra and Mahindra, Skoda Auto, Kia, Volkswagen India, Renault, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi Participate in stakeholder meetings on policy.

In 2022, Musk said Tesla, which wants lower import duties to sell its vehicles in India, will not manufacture its products unless it is first allowed to sell and service cars in the country.

In August 2021, Musk said that Tesla may set up a manufacturing unit in India if it initially finds success with the country’s imported vehicles. He said Tesla wants to launch its vehicles in India "but the import duties are the highest of any major country in the world!"

Currently, cars imported as completely built units (CBUs) attract customs duties ranging from 70 per cent to 100 per cent, depending on engine size and cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value.
