Shares of the country's leading luggage company, VIP Industries, climbed more than 7 per cent in early trading on December 24. This surge followed a major block deal involving the transaction of approximately 3.7 crore shares. Notably, this represents about 26 per cent of the company's total equity, signaling continued shifts in the company's ownership.
Price Movement
VIP Industries shares opened at Rs 362 and touched a high of Rs 397 in early trade. Significantly, this marks the first major rally in the company's shares in nearly three months.
Who Was Involved In The Block Deal?
While the specific names of the buyers and sellers in Wednesday's block deal were not immediately revealed, this transaction follows a series of promoter stake sales over the past few months. The size of this block deal corresponds to the remaining open-offer quantity previously announced by a consortium led by Multiples Private Equity and its partners.
What Is Block Deal?
Bulk deals and block deals are types of transactions in the stock market used by institutional investors, large fund houses, mutual funds, FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investors), and HNIs (High Net-worth Individuals) to trade large volumes of shares.
In a block deal, a single transaction involving a minimum of 500,000 shares or a minimum value of Rs 10 crore takes place between two parties who agree to buy or sell shares at a mutually agreed-upon price.

At the time, Multiples Private Equity Fund purchased 60 lakh shares for Rs 233 crore, while another group bought 22 lakh shares for Rs 86 crore.
