Zomato Platform Fee Hike News: Food delivery major Zomato has raised its platform fee by Rs 2.40, taking it to Rs 14.90 from Rs 12.5 per order. With the increased charge, which is a fixed cost, the hike directly escalates consumers' final bill in addition to delivery charges, if applicable.
The move comes amid rising cost pressures and intensifying competition in the food delivery space.
How The Increased Prices Would Impact Your Pocket
The recent fee hike will have a direct impact on consumers, as ordering food via Zomato will now cost you more. The price hike was announced at a time when eateries and restaurant owners have increased prices due to non-availability of commercial LPG cylinders and rising costs of other essential ingredients on the back of supply constraints amid the Middle East war crisis.
The platform has increased its fee by Rs 2.40 to Rs 14.90 per order (exempted from GST) from Rs 12.50 earlier. Now, let's assume that if your order is worth Rs 200, earlier you were paying Rs 12.50 (plus GST) as a platform fee.
Now, you will have to pay Rs 2.40 more per order. Moreover, if delivery charges, surge pricing during peak hours, late-night fees, or even weather-related charges apply to your order, then they will be levied separately on top of the platform fee. This means the order amount could rise further depending on factors like distance, timing, and demand.
Rapido Announces Food Delivery Service
Zomato's decision comes at a time when Rapido, an urban mobility giant, has launched its food delivery. However, the service will only be available in Bengaluru. The company has said that it will not charge any additional fees to either customers or restaurants, except for delivery charges.
