Ashes 2025, Australia vs England Test Series: Australian captain Pat Cummins has started his preparations for the upcoming Ashes 2025 series against England. Cummins will miss the first Test of the five-match series in Perth due to fitness issues.

The Ashes 2025 is all set to kick off at Optus Stadium in Perth with the first Test scheduled to be played from November 21 to 25. The 32-year-old pacer Cummins, who has 309 wickets to his name in 71 Test matches, can be seen bowling for the first time since July 2025. The clip of Cummins in New South Wales nets is going viral, and it has boosted hopes of his return for the Ashes series.

Notably, former skipper Steve Smith will be leading the Australian team in the opening match in the absence of Cummins.

According to a cricket.com.au report, Cummins put in a solid session at the SCG on Saturday. He was sending balls down at full pace in the nets. Cummins' absence will also give Scott Boland a chance to start the series as the third out and out pace bowling option along with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

If Cummins manages to clear the fitness test, then he could come into the side for the second Test, which will be a day-night affair at The Gabba in December.

Cummins has had an impressive record against England over the years. The right-arm pacer made his Test debut for Australia way back in 2011 against South Africa and has represented the national team in 19 matches against England. In those 19 fixtures, he has bowled 693.3 overs and picked up 91 wickets. Cummins, who led Australia to the World Test Championship (WTC) title win in 2023, has 177 wickets to his name in 38 Test matches played in Australia.

Overall, Cummins has 309 wickets under his belt in 71 career Test matches. While Australia look to extend their dominance in the Ashes, England will be aiming to register their first Test series win against the Aussies since 2015.
