Asia Cup Update: With the Asia Cup 2025 scheduled to take place in less than a month away from now, India T20 vice captain Hardik Pandya is likely to undergo fitness assessment at BCCI's COE (Centre Of Excellence) in Bengaluru as per a report. The 31-year-old, who has been subjected to injuries in the past has been a crucial to India's set-up in white-ball format. Notably, he was instrumental in India's title winning campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2024.

According to The Times of India, with Asia Cup starting from 9 September, the premier all-rounder will go through the assessment on August 11 and 12. The report also stated that Shreyas Iyer, who is likely to be a part of the squad, is done with his assessment already in the month of July (27 and 29).

Iyer's selection will not come as a surprise to Cricket fans as he led Punjab Kings to IPL 2025 final. His exploits as captain for KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) was appreciated by Cricket fans as he led the side to their third IPL title.

Suryakumar Yadav to captain India

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has already started his preparations on the road to recovery ahead of next month's Asia Cup. In June, Suryakumar shared an update on Instagram about his successful sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany.

Recently, Suryakumar posted a video on Instagram, sweating it out in the gym, performing different exercises to regain his fitness and captioned his post, "Can't wait to be back doing what I love".

Suryakumar's campaign as T20I captain has been impressive so far as India have won 17 out of 22 games so far with series wins against Australia, England and South Africa.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the Indian team is expected to travel to the UAE in the first week of September. The tournament will mark the beginning of India's preparations for defending their crown in the T20 World Cup next year. India will host the tournament with Sri Lanka.
