Australia vs Pakistan 2nd Test: Australia's star opener received a standing ovation on his way to the dressing on Thursday as he played the last innings of his Test career at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday, December 28.

Australia and Pakistan are in action in the second Test match with the hosts already having a 1-0 lead after winning the first match in Perth.

The heartwarming moment took place in the fifth over of Australia’s second innings bowled by Mir Hamza who began it with a shorter delivery outside off.

Warner looked to go for the pull but dragged a thick inside edge back onto the middle stump.

The left-hander could just score six runs in his final innings at the venue before getting dismissed after the lunch break.

Warner took a while to walk out of the ground as the response of the standing ovation from the MCG crowd made him emotional.

He waved his bat at the crowd and showed a thumps-up before handing his batting gloves to a kid who was excitingly waiting to get a high-five from the veteran Aussie batter.

Cricket Australia put up a video of the moment where the crowd can be seen clapping for the opener.

David Warner did not do well in the ongoing Test match in Melbourne, having scored 38 in the first innings and 6 in the second.

However, he came into the Test match after a sensational century at the Optus Stadium in Perth, where he scored 164 runs.

The star batter had requested for a farewell Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia will host Pakistan in the final match of the three-match series in Sydney right after the New Year break.

Warner has been a remarkable player for Australia across formats, especially in the Test format in which he is close to reaching 9000 runs.

While he is unlikely to reach the feat in Sydney, Warner will always be remembered as one of the most influential openers of all time.

The batter has close to 7000 runs in ODI cricket and close to 3000 runs in Test cricket. Warner has 26 hundred in Test cricket, the most by an opener in the history of the game.

The hosts Australia finished the third day at 187/6 in their second innings with a promising lead of 241 runs as they look to have an upper hand heading forward in the match.
