BAN vs HK Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong quite comprehensively by seven wickets during their tournament opener on Thursday. The Bangla bowlers gave the Hong Kong batters a hard time during the first innings as Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Rishad Hossain took two wickets apiece. Hong Kong were seen struggling during the powerplay, even though Nizakat Khan scored a gritty knock of 42 runs and helped the team to a respectable target of 143 runs.
Chasing this target might have been challenging in Abu Dhabi. But the Hong Kong bowlers failed to pile pressure on the Bangladesh batters. They were able to get out of form openers Parvin Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim cheaply, but then Litton Das helped the team bounce back and kept the score rate ticking. He scored his fifty off 33 balls and overall scored 59 runs off 39 balls.
Towhid Hridoy assisted him well during the middle overs as he too scored a brilliant knock of 34 runs and helped the team win the first match. They had also won their first match against Hong Kong in the shortest format. They had suffered a humiliating defeat against the same opponent way back in the 2014 T20 World Cup.
With this loss, Hong Kong is all but out of the race for the Super Four in this tournament. At the same time, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have registered one win each, and Sri Lanka is yet to play their first match. They will lock horns with Bangladesh later this week.
