Border Gavaskar Trophy: The "Virat Kohli fever" has swept through the Australian media, after the Indian batting stalwart arrived in Perth ahead of the first Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Kohli, who has been a legendary face of cricket in the world, hogged the spotlight on the front pages of various Australian newspapers with his sensational arrival in Perth for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In a stunning gesture, the Australian media delighted the fans with Virat Kohli's image on the front page with headlines published in Hindi and Punjabi.
A local newspaper published a special edition featuring a stunning full-page poster of the Indian cricket icon. The publication also dedicated columns to analysing the growing rivalry between India and Australia, dubbing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the "new Ashes".
The newspaper also had stories about Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, boosting the young batting sensations for the big battle Down Under. The newspaper carried a bold Hindi headline, "Yugon ki ladai" (Fight for the ages) with a separate column on Jaiswal with the Punjabi headline "Navam Raja" or "The New King."
A lot of @imVkohli in the Australian papers this morning as is the norm whenever India are in town but never expected to see Hindi and Punjabi appearing in the Adelaide Advertiser. However, contrastingly, this a day after Pakistan's white-ball head coach Jason Gillespie attacked Cricket Australia for the lack of publicity for the Pakistan ODI series and for giving all attention to the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
"To be honest, I pretty much saw no promotion of our one-day series by Cricket Australia, which was a bit of a surprise. It's pretty obvious that they're prioritising the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India because I saw no promotion of this series," Gillespie was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Meanwhile, the Indian batting maestro landed in Perth on Sunday ahead of India's five-match Test series opener at Optus Stadium from November 22 to 26.
