As per a report from Cricbuzz, Shakib will likely be available for the Sylhet phase subject to his eye issue status, confirmed by a top official of the Risers franchise.

"He (Shakib) is leaving for Sylhet today and we are expecting him to be available during the Sylhet phase if he recovers from his eye problem. Let's hope for the best but if that is not the case we have to play with our available resources," Cricbuzz quoted Ishtiaque Sadeque, Riders chief executive officer as saying.

Shakib was part of Rangpur Riders' first match of the tournament which they lost against Fortune Barishal.

He scored just two runs before getting dismissed by Khaled Ahmed but put up a great bowling performance and picked up two wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs.

After their five-wicket defeat, Riders captain Nurul Hasan admitted in front of the press that the veteran all-rounder was struggling with his eyes.

"He (Shakib) has been struggling with eyesight problems for some time now. I think he has been in touch with the doctors regularly. The doctors only could say in what stage the problem is now," said Nurul.

It came to the public after the ODI World Cup 2023 that Shakib had an eye issue as he played in the marquee tournament while going through it.

He went to London in the recent past for an eye checkup before returning to Dhaka on January 18.

Riders are scheduled to play Sylhet Strikers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday, January 23

On the other hand, they will kick off the Sylhet phase with their first match scheduled to be played against Khulna Tigers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 26.
