Former Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq has criticised the treatment of coaches in Pakistan cricket, claiming that foreign coaches are given more authority and face less scrutiny than their local counterparts.

Misbah, who recently stepped down as Pakistan's national selector, made the comments while speaking on a television show. His remarks came amid renewed debate over the state of Pakistan cricket and the wider concerns surrounding the country's cricketing system.

Misbah Claims Foreign Coaches Get More Authority

According to Misbah, there is a clear difference in how foreign and Pakistani coaches are treated.

"It is a fact that local and foreign coaches are treated differently in Pakistan cricket. Local coaches have to face more scrutiny and criticism when compared to foreign coaches," Misbah said.

The former captain clarified that he has no objection to appointing overseas coaches but questioned why they are often given a softer treatment by fans, critics, the media and the Pakistan Cricket Board.

"I don't think there is anything wrong in having foreign coaches but what bothers me is we (fans, critics, media, PCB) tend to have a soft corner for foreign coaches," he added.

Misbah Urges Greater Support For Local Coaches

The former Pakistan cricketer expressed concern over the growing tendency to criticise players heavily after a bad run of form. According to Misbah, excessive criticism can affect players mentally and make it even harder for them to regain confidence.

"There is a negative trend nowadays in Pakistan cricket to start bashing players and put them down mentally after any poor show," Misbah said.

"It becomes very difficult for our players to regain form and confidence."

Pakistan Cricket Needs Patience, Says Misbah

Misbah's comments come after significant changes were made to Pakistan's squad and coaching set-up during the team's tour of England.

Misbah believes such reactive decisions are part of the larger problem within Pakistan cricket.

"Pakistan cricket's main issue was the need to have more consistency, patience and a long-term plan," he said.

"We shouldn't panic and do cosmetic surgery because of pressure. We need to analyse performances and the situation and then decide how to move forward."

"Unfortunately we are used to taking reactive decisions in Pakistan cricket."

Misbah Praises India's Long-Term Cricket Approach

The former Pakistan captain also pointed towards India as an example of how a cricketing system can improve through patience and long-term planning.

"India took time to process and develop and they made gradual investments in their system after the 90s. There is no quick fix to the system," he said.

He also cited Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as examples of players who benefited from India's structured approach and development process.

'Too Much White-Ball Cricket'

According to Misbah, India's dominance over Pakistan in recent years is also linked to greater exposure and stronger preparation, particularly at the professional and mental levels.

"Our youngsters are playing too much white-ball cricket and their exposure to red-ball cricket is limited. Not enough four-day cricket. This means they have more chances of cracking under pressure," he said.
