Pakistan suffered a historic 3-0 series defeat against England after losing all three Tests on their current tour. It was the first time Pakistan had been clean-swept in a three-match Test series in England.
Despite the heavy defeat, debutant Razaullah Mashwani gave Pakistan something to fight for in the second innings at Birmingham. After taking four wickets earlier in the match, the No. 9 batter smashed 81 runs off just 63 balls, hitting nine sixes and four fours.
Razaullah's knock helped Pakistan recover from a 320-run deficit and set England a target of 130 runs. However, Joe Root and Jordan Cox stood firm in the chase and guided England to a comfortable eight-wicket win.
Pakistan Bowled Out For 133
After losing the first two Tests heavily, Pakistan made several changes to their squad ahead of the third Test. Seven players were sent home, while head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was also removed from his position.
Mike Hesson took charge as the interim head coach for the Birmingham Test after joining the squad in England.
However, Pakistan’s batting problems continued. They were bowled out for just 133 runs in their first innings.
England responded strongly, with Emilio Gay, Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence and Jamie Smith all scoring half-centuries. Their efforts helped England post 453 runs and take a huge 320-run lead.
Pakistan were staring at the possibility of an innings defeat, but Razaullah gave them some hope by taking four wickets in England’s first innings.
Razaullah Leads Pakistan’s Fightback
Pakistan’s second innings also started badly as they lost two wickets without scoring a run.
Azan Awais then steadied the innings with a 59-run knock off 84 balls, including 10 fours. Shan Masood came close to a century but was dismissed for 95 off 148 balls, having hit 12 fours.
Babar Azam also played an important innings, scoring 76 off 103 balls with 11 fours and a six.
Pakistan managed to erase England’s huge lead before Razaullah arrived at No. 9 and changed the momentum of the innings.
The debutant shared a 121-run partnership with Mohammad Abbas for the ninth wicket. Abbas contributed 47 runs, while Razaullah went after the England bowlers and smashed 81 off 63 balls.
His innings included nine sixes and four fours as Pakistan finished on 449, setting England a target of 130 runs.
Root And Cox End Pakistan’s Hopes
England made a poor start to their chase as Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay were both dismissed for ducks.
But Pakistan could not take advantage of the early wickets.
Joe Root and Jordan Cox took control of the chase and put the visitors under pressure. The pair remained unbeaten and took England to the target without any further damage.
Root finished unbeaten on 62 off 69 balls, hitting eight fours, while Cox scored 59 not out off 76 balls, also hitting eight fours.
England reached 130/2 and completed an eight-wicket victory, sealing a 3-0 series win over Pakistan.
