GT vs CSK, IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, May 10.

Gill has been fined INR 24 lakh as a penalty after his side defeated CSK by 35 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, registering their fifth win of this season.

While it was GT's second over-rate offence of the season, the rest of the playing 11 members, including the Impact Player, were individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.

GT, who stand in the eighth position in the points table are still alive in the race for the play-off qualification despite having a disappointing campaign so far.

Talking about the match, Gujarat Titans came up with a remarkable all-round performance with skipper Gill leading from the front.

After being put into bat first, GT posted a massive total of 231/3 in their two overs with both openers Gill and Sai Sudharsan smashing centuries.

The duo stitched a record 210-run partnership with Gill scoring 104 runs whereas Sudharsan smashed 103 rubs with the help of five fours and seven sixes.

Chasing the target, CSK looked alive in the contest somewhere in the middle overs but ended up getting restricted to 196/8 in their 20 overs.

Daryl Mitchell was the top run-getter for the visitors as he scored 63 runs in just 34 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes whereas Moeen Ali contributed with a 56-run knock.

MS Dhoni, towards the end, gave the massive crowd some memorable moments with a 26-run cameo on the back of one four and three sixes.

"Honestly at one point 250 was for the taking and we fell short. In the last two to three overs, they bowled well. I thought we were 10-15 short, not in terms of the match but in terms of net run rate," GT skipper Gill said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Notably, Gill, who smashed nine fours and seven sixes for his magnificent innings, left the field during CSK's run chase and revealed the reason for that after the game.

Rahul Tewatia led the side in Gill's absence on the field.

"It's just a cramp, nothing more." About his 210-run opening stand with Sudharsan, Gill said that he loved the freedom with which they executed their shots. Gill hit six maximums while Sudharsan had one more to his credit.

"Loved the freeness of it (partnership with Sudharsan), we didn't have targets in mind, we maximized every over and opportunity in front of us. We have a good camaraderie between us, we run the twos, and we understand each other well. In terms of numbers, definitely, it is [our best opening partnerships]."
