IND vs ENG 5th Test: India's star pacer Prasidh Krishna reckoned that he told England's Joe Root that he looked in great shape in the fifth Test match of the ongoing series, and that resulted in a lot of abuse and an on-field heated exchange between both these players. Prasidh was brutally trolled on social media for provoking Root, whose image is quite clear, but as per Krishna, he wasn't expecting such a huge reaction.

The incident occurred when Root came into bat during the second innings. Root's face became red, and then he smashed a few fours in Prasidh's over, who then bowled a few bouncers angrily. The on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena had to interfere and followed Prasidh like a hawk. Dharmasena was also involved in a verbal spat with KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill, who wasn't happy after being told to stop abusing.

“I don’t know why Rooty [reacted]. “I just said, ‘You’re looking in great shape,’ and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that," Praisdh was quoted as saying on Test Match Special.

During the post-match press conference, Prasidh was asked whether he planned to distract Root.

“That was the plan, but I didn’t expect the couple of words I said to get such a big reaction from him," Prasidh told reporters during the post-match press conference.

Prasidh admitted that Root is a legendary cricketer.

“That’s just who I am when I’m bowling, when I’m enjoying. If it means that I have a bit of a chat with the batter… and it does help me when I can get under the nerves of the batsman and get a reaction from them. But I love the guy that he is. He is a legend of the game, and I think it is great when two people are out there wanting to do the best and be a winner at a given moment," he concluded.

It was Mohammed Siraj who ultimately dismissed Root by LBW. The Ollie Pope-led side were skittled out for just 247 runs and took a lead of 23 runs, and the third innings began where India were 75/2 on the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal's gritty half-century till stumps.
