ICC T20 World Cup 2026: After registering an impressive win against the USA in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, India have got another boost as skipper Suryakumar Yadav provided a big update on Washington Sundar's fitness issue. Suryakumar confirmed that Sundar will join the squad in Delhi ahead of their next match against Namibia, which is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 12.
Washington has been out of action over the past few weeks with a side strain, but remained a part of India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. His last appearance for India came in the first ODI against New Zealand last month. While he was replaced by Ayush Badoni in the ODI series, India opted not to replace him in their T20 World Cup squad, as the injury was not too serious. Moreover, he was unlikely to be part of the first-choice XI.

"Washy [Washington] is joining us in Delhi," Suryakumar said after India's 29-run win over the USA in their campaign-opener. "He is good, everything is fine."

The star all-rounder underwent an intense rehabilitation programme and followed all the Return To Play protocols before being given the green light to return to the field by the medical and sports science team. For nearly a week now, Sundar has been batting and bowling without considerable difficulty at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Notably, the Indian team has already lost the services of pacer Harshit Rana in the ongoing tournament, who has been ruled out due to a knee injury and is expected to be out for a considerable period of time.
India were without Jasprit Bumrah in the opening game against the USA due to illness, and the senior pacer was replaced by Mohammed Siraj. The latter came up with an outstanding effort of three wickets as India registered a 29-run victory over the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav was the star performer for the Men in Blue, having smashed an incredible half-century to help his team reach a challenging total.
While the rest of the batting order completely failed, Suryakumar ended up playing a fighting knock of 84 runs in 49 balls on the back of 10 fours and four sixes.
