India vs Afghanistan 3rd T20I: India and Afghanistan played out an entertaining match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17 with the hosts emerging victorious.

India clinched the victory in the Super Over to complete the 3-0 whitewash with skipper Rohit Sharma shining with the bat.

After the disappointing outings in the first two matches, Rohit made it count brilliantly with a remarkable century in the dead rubber fixture, his fifth in the shortest format.

However, his century came at a crucial juncture when India were struggling at 22/4.

Bailing the team out of trouble, Rohit stitched a record 190-run partnership with Rinku Singh for the fifth wicket.

The duo helped India post a huge total of 212/4 in their 20 overs before allowing the visitors to level it and force the match into the Super Over.

The Super Over also was tied with the score of 16 each before India picked up a victory in the second on the back of Ravi Bishnoi's two wickets while defending a 12-run target.

Rohit slammed 121 runs off 69 balls with 11 fours and eight sixes while on the other hand, Rinku played an unbeaten knock of 69 runs from 39 balls with two fours and six sixes in his innings.

Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma scored 36 runs in the final over of the match, courtesy of a no-ball. Only Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard had earlier scored 36 runs each, for India against England (vs Stuart Broad in Durban in 2007) and for West Indies against Sri Lanka (vs Akila Dananjaya in Coolidge in 2021), respectively.

First-ever double Super Over in an international match

India vs Afghanistan played out a first-ever international cricket match featuring two Super Overs.

 

Some other records broken during India vs Afghanistan 3rd T20I:

Rohit now has the most runs to his name as an Indian captain in T20Is. He went past Virat Kohli's tally of 1570 runs in 50 T20Is, courtesy of his 121-run knock. He now sits at 1648 runs in T20Is.

Rohit is now the second captain after Babar Azam to score three T20I centuries as the captain of the team.

The third T20I for India helped Rohit equal MS Dhoni's record of winning 42 T20Is for India.

The Hitman sits top of the list when it comes to the number of bilateral T20I series wins for India as captain. Rohit has 12 to his name.
