Before announcing the award, the fielding coach praised other team members who were present in the match for their efforts as well. He said,” When we show our athleticism on the field, with awareness, we can make a lot of difference and today was a great example of that. Started with Washi, Sanju… outstanding effort."

T Dilip also mentioned and credited the players who were sitting out but made notable contributions on the field.
Before the start of the series, we spoke on certain ‘one percent’ factors like not about the brilliant catches we take or the runs we save, but reading the game, chasing in pairs and backing up. Taking the ownership going into hotspots, there were a lot of things visible in this tournament. I give credit to each and everyone, not only the people who have played but also people who have been sitting outside," he said in the video posted by the BCCI.
India’s Rinku Singh was nominated for the award, “Rinku, your athleticism has been outstanding, the way you’ve done,” said Dilip on his outstanding efforts in the series against Afghanistan.
Dilip finally announced the winner, “This guy has shown time and again, split-second decision-making, whether to go for it or not. The way he keeps on coming at you, you can’t take your eyes off, none other than Virat Kohli.”
Virat had a disappointing outing with the bat in the third match as he was dismissed for the first-ball duck but compensated for it on the field with a crucial run-out and a jaw-dropping save on the boundary line.
He also was active and alert enough every time to save crucial runs and take important catches as the star player showed his worth in the team.
Kohli will next be seen in the action in the five-match Test series against England at home which begins on January 25 with the first Test scheduled to be played in Hyderabad.
