India vs Australia 3rd Test: Steve Smith was at his very best during the third Test match between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday.

Smith played a big hand in putting Australia in a dominant position after the end of the second day's play. He smashed a remarkable hundred and took on Indian bowlers while getting incredible support from Travis Head.

While Smith smashed his 33rd Test century, Head scored his second successive hundred in the ongoing five-match Test series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The duo stitched a 241-run stand for the fourth wicket.

The star batter Smith played a magnificent knock of 101 runs in 190 balls on the back of 12 fours. This was his 10th century against India in Test Cricket in his 41st innings against the opposition.

Smith now becomes the first batter in history to slam 10 centuries against India in under 50 innings.

He now has the joint-most number of tons in the longest format of the game against India. Joe Root also has scored 10 hundreds against India in Tests in 55 innings.

Smith found his form in the all-important series. He also went past Steve Waugh in the list of most hundreds for Australia in Tests. Only Ricky Ponting (41) has more hundreds.

The knock ended Smith’s string of low scores as he recorded a century after 25 innings. Smith’s last century came against England in June 2023 at the Lord’s during the Ashes. He registered only four 50-plus scoring during this stretch.

"It was just nice to get to three figures. It's been a little while. It's been tricky the first couple of games. Had a couple of nice balls and got strangled down the leg side in Adelaide," Smith said in the post-day press conference.

"I feel like I've been batting well the last month or so. It was kind of just sticking to my processes, trusting that it'll turn around," he added.

Australia scored 405/7 in their first innings after being put into bat first. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers as he took five wickets for 72 runs in 25 overs whereas Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy found a scalp each.
