BCCI President Jay Shah announced on social media that a staggering 30 crore fans in India tuned in to watch the Cricket World Cup 2023 final on TV, making it the most-watched event of any kind in Indian television history. Shah highlighted that the peak TV concurrency reached a historic high of 13 crore during the final clash between India and Australia.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and passion Indian fans have for the sport. He thanked everyone who supports the team, stating, "We are again humbled by the love and passion Indian fans have for our sport. Thank you to all those who bleed blue." Disney+ Hotstar, the digital streaming platform, also broke the peak concurrency record during the tournament, reaching a massive 5.9 crore peak concurrent viewers during the finals.
The ODI World Cup 2023, which took place in India from October 5 to November 19, concluded with Australia emerging victorious for a record-extending sixth title. The final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad saw Australia bowl out India for 240 and successfully chase the target of 241 in 43 overs.
The remarkable viewership numbers underscore the immense popularity of cricket in India and the significance of major cricketing events in capturing the nation's attention.
