India vs Bangladesh Kanpur Test: Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted that his side was left stunned by India's ultra-aggressive approach on Day 4 and said the hosts came into the match with a positive mindset.
As the play finally started on Day 4, India grabbed command of the match after bundling out Bangladesh for just 233 in the first innings. What came after the visitors' innings left everyone stunned as India came out to bat all gun blazing with a fierce counterattack, putting Bangladesh bowlers under immense pressure.
India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a blistering start, establishing a solid foundation for other batters with their opening partnership. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and the middle order then took the baton, capitalizing on the momentum to stamp India's authority on the game.
India rushed to a 52-run lead, declaring their innings at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs. Mehidy lauded India's approach, stating that they played attacking cricket from the beginning, showcasing their stroke-making domination.
“In Test cricket, we see different scenarios and today, it was like a T20. India came with a plan and mindset of winning, the way they scored runs from top to bottom. We tried to restrict them, but credit goes to them and they are also a top team with experienced and world-class players,” Mehidy said in the press conference.
Mominul Haque's outstanding form blazed through with an unbeaten 107, but his actions were largely alone. According to Mehidy Hasan, the rest of the Bangladesh batting lineup failed to deliver good support to Haque's century-making knock.
“Mominul bhai batted really well, but we could not give him enough support. Had we supported him, the match could have been different,” Mehidy said.
Mehidy Hasan, who contributed 20 crucial runs to Bangladesh's first innings total, emphasized the team's determination to salvage a draw.
“We are in such a situation that we have to think about our safety. We will try and bat as long as possible, which will benefit our team,” Mehidy added.
