IND vs ENG: As the first Test between India and England approaches in Hyderabad, England face a tough challenge against India's dominance in home Tests. India have been a powerhouse in the longest format, winning 13 successive series at home since the beginning of 2013. During this period, India played 38 Tests, losing only 2 and emerging victorious in 31.
For the upcoming series, England chose to prepare for the tour in Abu Dhabi rather than engaging in a tour game in India. Former England captain Michael Atherton shared his insights, predicting India's advantage in the upcoming series.
"I think India will win. Their spinners are better than England's, and that will be the defining thing in the end," Atherton expressed to Skysports.
Spin will play a major role in the turning tracks in India. India boast a strong spin lineup with R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav in their arsenal which could trouble the English batters.
Reflecting on the historical significance of spin in India, Atherton emphasiSed its crucial role and acknowledged India's strong seam attack. England's last series victory in India dates back to 2012 when Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar outperformed their Indian counterparts.
"If you go to India, spin will play a big part, it historically has done and I suspect it always will do. India do have a very strong seam attack as well," Atherton said.
"India's four spinners are very different to England's. They have two left-arm finger spinners in Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. They have a wrist spinner in Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the greatest spinners of all time,” he added.

England's series strategy leans heavily on the experienced spinner Jack Leach. The key question remains whether he can find a reliable partner to pose a challenge to the Indian batters on their home turf.
"England have a solid left-arm spinner in Jack Leach and then three very inexperienced spinners after that with Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed. It will be a particular challenge for them but the selectors see a high ceiling for them," Artherton said.
With the pitches expected to offer significant turn from day one in India, the series promises to be a stern test for the England batters.
