IND vs ENG, ODI World Cup 2023: India bowlers put up a show after they were challenged to defend a total for the first time in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 on Sunday, October 29.

Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were the flag bearers to what turned out to be a special display of new ball bowling as India defended 229 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Pacers took the responsibility up front followed by promising support from the spinners as India clinched a 100-run victory, bowling the defending champions out for just 129 runs in 34.5 overs.

Skipper Rohit Sharma lauded the efforts of the bowlers, especially the seamers as they helped the team to go to the top of the points table with sixth successive victory in the tournament.

"It's not something you see every day. When you start your innings, you have to somehow try and get a couple of wickets to put the pressure back on the opposition. With the experience that our seamers have now, you can always rely on and bank on them to get those crucial breakthroughs. That's exactly what our seamers did," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

While Bumrah provided the early breakthroughs, Shami capitalised on the foundation and carried the momentum forward as he ended up taking four wickets. Bumrah finished with three wickets with the duo sharing seven crucial wickets between themselves.

"They exploited the conditions pretty well. There was a swing, there was lateral a bit of lateral movement as well. They put the ball in the right areas to create that doubt in the batters' mind," Rohit lauded the pacers after they made it struggle for the England top-order.

After the pacers' remarkable effort, spinners too joined the part with Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets, including Jos Buttler's dismissal with probably the 'Ball of the Tournament' while Ravindra Jadeja also took a wicket.

"I think so. We have a good balance, a couple of good spinners, and the seamers have a lot of experience playing in these conditions. There's a fair bit of options and experience as well. It's very important that the batters put runs on the board, give them something to work with, and then rely on them to do the magic," Rohit added when asked about where India have the best bowling attack.
