India climbed back to the top spot in the Cricket World Cup 2023 points table after securing a thumping 100-run win against the defending champions England. India won their sixth successive game of the tournament, grabbing the maximum 12 points.
With a remarkable net run rate of +1.405, India have almost secured their place in the semi finals. A win against Sri Lanka will guarantee their place in the knockout stage. On the other hand, England, the reigning champions, are almost out of the World Cup after losing their fifth match in the tournament. They are the second team to lose fifth match after Bangladesh.
South Africa closely follow India in second place, with five victories and a net run rate of +2.032, totaling 10 points. New Zealand and Australia are in the third and fourth positions, both with four wins and two losses, earning eight points each. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the Netherlands are still alive in the tournament with must-win games to play.
South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been setting the tournament ablaze with his exceptional performances. De Kock, with a staggering total of 431 runs, currently leads the run-scorers' chart.
Behind him, Australian opener David Warner closely follows with 413 runs, while New Zealand's young talent Rachin Ravindra stands at 406 runs. India's vice-captain Rohit Sharma and another South African batsman, Aiden Markram, complete the top five list of leading run-scorers.
Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has emerged as the leading wicket-taker. Zampa has accounted for a remarkable 16 wickets, showcasing his ability to dismantle opposing batting lineups consistently.
Following closely in the race for the highest wicket-taker are New Zealand's Mitch Santner and India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, both with 14 wickets to their names. Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi and South Africa's all-rounder Marco Jansen share the fourth position with 13 wickets each.
