India star batter Virat Kohli has been firing at full throttle in the ongoing ODI World Cup as hosts eye their second home title and third overall. Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with one century and three fifties in five matches of the tournament.

Lauding Kohli's sheer domination in chasing targets, former England captain Michael Vaughan drew a comparison between the Indian star and Argentina's football legend Lionel Messi saying big stars always deliver at top-tier tournaments like World Cups. Messi led his side to the FIFA World Cup 2022 title in Qatar last year. He scored seven goals in the tournament, second-best after Kylian Mbappe's eight.

"I actually put it on social media – great, great players always arrive in World Cups. It defines their legacies. Look at the footballers, Lionel Messi had to win the World Cup for Argentina, and he did it. Virat has already won a World Cup but you just feel he's going to drive the Indian team all the way,” said Vaughan speaking on the 'Club Prairie Fire' podcast.

The veteran cricketer feels that Kohli will get his historic 50th ODI century in the World Cup final to surpass legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 49 centuries record.

“Virat Kohli in the chase, there's no one better. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets a 49th (century) before the final, and his 50th in the final. It's written in the stars," Vaughan said.

Currently, India are at the top of the table with 10 points in five matches and will next face England on Sunday, October 29.

According to Vaughan, no team in the tournament is able to stop them from winning as they are unstoppable.

“I'd love to know how they (India) can be stopped. I can't see it at the minute. Yes, you can get early wickets. But the pitches aren't going to do much. How are you going to get them 3-4 down quickly? Aussies were the closest to surprise them when they got three out early in Chennai, but I don't see how anyone will get close to them,” the ex-England captain said.
