India vs South Africa: Indian skipper Shubman Gill is likely to sit out of the second Test against South Africa, as per a report by PTI. The report quoted sources from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), stating that Gill is not travelling to Guwahati with the team on Wednesday. Notably, Gill sustained a neck injury during Day 2 of the first Test between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The report also added that the side will travel to Guwahati on Wednesday after undergoing an optional training session on Tuesday.

"He has acute neck pain, and we're not allowed to further go to details about the injury. He has to keep continuing wearing the neck collar," the source was quoted as saying PTI.

"He has been advised three-four days rest and not to take flight. In this situation, he is not advised to travel to Guwahati. But we are monitoring his progress on a daily basis and the picture will be clearer by Tuesday," the sources added.

Gill's absence hurt India during the fourth innings as India succumbed to a 30-run defeat while chasing a 124 on a tricky wicket at the Eden.

India are likely to rope in either B Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal in his place with vice-captain Rishabh Pant leading the side.

On Day 3 of the Kolkata Test, BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) confirmed that Gill was taken to the hospital, having retired hurt on four after facing only three balls in India's first innings.

The BCCI, in their release, also informed that Gill had been ruled out of the game. He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday evening.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir said at the post-match press conference that Gill was "still being assessed", with another round of evaluations to be carried out by the physio and medical staff.
