IPL 2026 Auction: Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins was named captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the third consecutive IPL season as the franchise confirmed it on Monday. Through their official handle on 'X', SRH posted a picture of Cummins without revealing many details. Currently, Cummins has been ruled out of the first Ashes Test scheduled to take place in Perth starting on November 21.

It is worth noting that Cummins will make his way back into the side for the second Test in Brisbane. In his absence, former captain Steve Smith has been named captain for the side in the Ashes Opener.

The second Test in Brisbane begins on December 4.

Cummins, who was bought by the franchise for a staggering 20.50 crore, took over the captaincy reigns from South Africa's Aiden Markram in 2024.

Cummins has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the past.

SRH head coach Daniel Vettori said he's pleased with the core team's performance and happy to retain enough budget to target quality players, aiming to strengthen the squad with talent that may not have fit elsewhere.

"Wanted to keep nucleus together, happy with how players performed. Happy to go with enough of a purse to target players. Any time you have a chance to add quality players who may not have fit elsewhere, hopefully we can identify them and add to our squad," said Vettori as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
