Jasprit Bumrah made history in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka by becoming the first Indian bowler to take a wicket on the very first ball of a team's innings in a World Cup match. Bumrah's exceptional first delivery trapped Pathum Nissanka LBW, with the ball moving rapidly and hitting Nissanka's pads high, resulting in an out decision by the umpire. Although Sri Lanka reviewed the decision, it confirmed that the delivery was clipping the left stump's bails.

Virat Kohli Overtakes Sachin Tendulkar's Massive ODI Record:

In the same match, Virat Kohli came close to equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries but fell short once again. Kohli scored 88 runs from 94 balls and formed a significant 189-run second-wicket partnership with Shubman Gill, who looked impressive with his run-a-ball 92. After a brief slump in the middle, Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role with his 82 off 56 balls, hitting six sixes and three fours.

Despite the impressive performances, all three Indian batters, including Kohli, Gill, and Iyer, missed the opportunity to reach a century due to the brilliance of Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madushanka, who took 5 wickets for 80 runs in his 10 overs. He bowled a fantastic delivery to dismiss Rohit Sharma early in the innings and used slower cutters and bouncers effectively.
