IND vs AUS ODI Series: India's batting mogul Rohit Sharma bestowed the ODI debut cap upon Nitish Kumar Reddy, delivering a passionate speech that emphasised that the 22-year-old all-rounder with his burgeoning talent will become an "all-format great" as he progresses in his career.

In the cap ceremony, the former Indian skipper presented Reddy with the cap No. 260, heaping praise on the debutant, commending the youngster's attitude and approach to the game.

The Perth connection proved fortunate once again for Nitish, who broke into the Indian Test team at the same venue last year, received his first ODI cap ahead of the first ODI against Australia.

However, Nitish's ODI debut was overshadowed by the Men in Blue's series-opening defeat in Perth, yielding more lessons than laurels for the all-rounder.

The opening 50-over match of the series was shortened to 26 overs per innings due to persistent rain at Perth, and constant interruptions in the first innings hindered the team's momentum after being asked to bat first.

Despite posting 136/9 in their assigned 26-over quota, which proved inadequate as Australia chased down the revised 131-run target (DLS) to secure an easy seven-wicket victory.
