IND vs AUS: Ex-India cricketer Anil Kumble has revealed that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have contributed a lot to the Indian cricket team, and since there's no clarity about their participation in the 2027 World Cup, it's better that the fans should celebrate them. Rohit, who is 38 years old, has been removed as India's ODI captain, whereas Kohli was last seen in action in IPL 2025 and is now seen getting clicked with fans.
Since both Rohit and Kohli will be seen in action in the ODI series against Australia, their future still looks uncertain.
The Mvn in Blue will be playing in nine ODIs till the 2026 T20 World Cup and 18 more till the 2027 World Cup. Since Kumble wasn't sure as to whether Kohli and Rohit would be going to South Africa after two years, he revealed that the final decision would be made at the right time.
“Let us just celebrate the two players on the field. They have done so much for Indian cricket over the years. You don’t know if… yes, in their heads, they have been thinking of 2027 [World Cup], but it is still a couple of years from now," Kumble was quoted as saying on JioHotstar.
“There are matches; all you need to do is go out there and enjoy, and now that Rohit is no longer the captain, even the burden and responsibility of captaining isn’t on him. So, it is just about batting and enjoying every moment that they have on the field. I don’t think they need to think too far ahead in terms of 2027," he said.

As far as Rohit and Kohli are concerned, their main aim is to get back into form before this series against Australia. Neither have they played for India after winning the Champions Trophy, nor have they participated in any form of competitive cricket after IPL 2025.
