IND vs AUS, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Cricket is a sport where small details can make a significant difference, and Australia captain Steve Smith had his slice of luck during the ICC Champions Trophy semifinal match against India, held at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.

Smith received a remarkable reprieve as the ball hit the stumps but the bails stayed hanging by it as if holding on for dear life, allowing the Australia captain a fortunate chance to go on for another innings with the bat.

On the final ball of the 14th over delivered by Axar Patel, Smith was the beneficiary of an extraordinary stroke of luck, as the ball grazed the stumps without dislodging the bails or triggering the stump lights, sparing his wicket in astonishing fashion.

Axar and wicket-keeper KL Rahul had disappointment written all over their faces as bails magically stayed in position, saving Smith's wicket. Smith has continued to show his capacity to deliver his runs against India, denoting arguably his claim to being Australia's one of the best batters in spin-friendly conditions.

As the ball trickled toward the stumps, Smith watched with bated breath, while Virat Kohali wore a face of anguish. Kohli's hands flew up in disbelief as if imploring the universe to intervene, but fate had other ideas, sparing Smith's wicket in a stunning turn of events.

Meanwhile, India had wasted a run-out chance on the preceding ball, as Varun Chakravarthy's fumble allowed Smith to narrowly escape. A swift and clean pickup by Chakravarthy would have put the Australian captain in a precarious position, but the momentary lapse proved costly for India.

Talking about the match, Cooper Connolly was first to go back in the pavilion as he was removed in the third over, caught by KL Rahul off Mohammed Shami. Travis Head came out firing as he made 39 off 33 balls before being caught by Shubman Gill off Varun Chakravarthy's delivery.

Marnus Labuschagne was next to depart after putting in a good 29 off 36 balls.
