Simon Doull Questions Rohit Sharma's Hunger For 2027 World Cup After Poor Show Against NZ, Says, 'Does He Still Have...'

IND vs NZ: India's star batter Rohit Sharma has been slammed heavily after his forgetful outing with the bat during the recent ODI series against New Zealand. He had scored just 61 runs in this series after playing in three matches at an average of 20.33 and a strike rate of 76.25.

The star batter failed to convert his starts during the first two matches and then got out after scoring 26 runs off 29 balls in the third match, where Zak Foulkes took his catch while standing at mid-on. After Rohit's disappointing performances, ex-New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull raised questions about his hunger to play till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“I feel with Rohit, he’s always had something to chase, in terms of a goal in mind, whether it be a T20 World Cup or a 50-over World Cup. I just wonder if the 2027 World Cup in South Africa is too far away? Does he still have that real hunger?” was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

Doull also emphasised that he won't get many chances in the next few months as the host will play their next ODI series in June.

“The last little while, and even coming up over the next few weeks, we’re building towards a T20 World Cup. So there has been very little one-day cricket over the past four months, and there will be very little in the next three or four months as well. When you’re only playing one format, you don’t get a huge number of opportunities,” he said.

Before this New Zealand series, Rohit was in sublime form as he was adjudged the Player of the series award in Australia, where he was the highest run-scorer, having scored 202 runs after playing in three matches. He also performed well against South Africa as he had scored 146 runs after playing in three matches.

But his woeful form against New Zealand has yet again restarted the debate around his future in this format. Since Yashasvi Jaiswal had smashed a ton in his last ODI match and was warming the bench, Rohit is in a tough spot as the next few matches are really important for his future.
