IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 Final: India's Asia Cup 2025 win against Pakistan ended dramatically, where skipper Suryakumar Yadav had accused ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi of running away with the trophy when they didn't accept receiving it from him. The Men in Blue won the match by five wickets, on the back of Tilak Varma's brilliant fifty.
The celebrations for these turned chaotic during the presentation ceremony.
Suryakumar then revealed the team's take and said that it was a collective decision not to receive the trophy from Naqvi, since he is the chairman of PCB and the interior minister.
'I think this is one thing which I have never seen after I ha started playing this sport- that a champion team is denied a trophy is denie a trophy. I mean that, too, a hard-earned one. We have been here since September 4. We play a game today, two back-to-back games in two days. I feel we deserved it. Suryakumar Yaav was quoted as saying to PTI.
A video had gone viral on social media where an official had removed the trophy when Naqvi walked away, whereas Pakistan players arriving late resulted in more delay.
The runners' medals were given to the Salman Ali Agha-led side and the Men in Blue without the trophy.
During an interaction with the ANI, Surya opened up on what real win it is for him and said, 'I won't call it controversy. The real trophy is when you win the hearts of people. The players, the support staff, and the work of so many people off the field. My trophies are sitting within my dressing room, all 14 guys with me, all the support staff. Those are the real trophies. These are the real moments I am taking back as lovely memories, which will stay with me forever.'
He also took his official X account and had posted, 'When the game is done, only the champions will be remembered and not the picture of a trophy.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, revealed that the board will be filing a complaint against Naqvi and described the entire incident as unacceptable.
Although the Suryakumar Yaav-led side did win their ninth Asia Cup title, it will be remembered for the off-field drama.
