Virat Kohli 52nd ODI Century: Virat Kohli unleashed yet another batting masterclass as he smashed a memorable century in the first ODI between India and South Africa at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday. This was Virat's 52nd ODI century as he went past Sachin Tendulkar's world record.
With 52 ODI centuries, Virat has become the batter with the most tons in a single format of the gentlemen’s game. Batting great Sachin has 51 Test centuries under his belt. Back in 2023, Kohli had surpassed his idol Sachin with his 50th ODI hundred, which came against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2023 semi-finals.

Kohli also went past former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis on the list of batters with the most runs in India vs South Africa ODIs. The 37-year-old is now second on the chart with more than 1600 runs, while Tendulkar continues to stay at the top with 2001 runs, with a highest score of 200 not out.

Earlier, the crowd witnessed yet another magnificent partnership between Virat and Rohit Sharma. After India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings, the recovery was made by Virat and Rohit as the veteran duo stitched a 136-run partnership for the second wicket. Rohit scored a 51-ball 57, including 3 sixes and 5 fours. However, his innings was cut short by Marco Jansen, who trapped the former Indian captain in front.
Virat's knock in the series opener against the Proteas was characterised by his classic cover drives and masterful rotation of the strike. Notably, Virat headed into the Ranchi ODI on the back of a match-winning fifty in the third and final match against Australia at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.
