Earlier, Aiden Markram (38), Ryan Rickelton (35), Tristan Stubbs (49) and skipper Temba Bavuma got promising starts on the first day, but none of them managed to convert their efforts into big knocks. For India, Kuldeep has been the pick of the bowlers so far with three wickets to his name, whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have found a scalp each.
India are being captained by Rishabh Pant in the absence of regular skipper Shubman Gill, who was ruled out of the match due to a neck injury.
