IND vs SA: India skipper Shubman Gill had gone to Guwahati as he was hopeful that he might recover well in time from the neck spasm. But the injury is more serious than it looked. He didn't make it to the playing XI of the second Test against South Africa and was also let go from the team as Rishabh Pant is leading the team from the front.
Since the selectors will be revealing the team for the ODI, which will be held later this month, Gill will be giving the three-match series a miss.
As per PTI, his injury isn't just a neck spasm and will lead to lost rest, and that's why the team management decided not to take any more risks. He is in Mumbai, undergoing treatment to analyze how badly it's damaged.

“All tests are being done to ascertain whether it is a muscular injury or a nerve-related niggle that requires more rest. As of now, selectors will be hoping he gets fit for the South Africa T20Is," a source told PTI.
It should be noted here that spinal injury specialist Dr Abhay Nene and the reports revealed, “Gill has been given an injection to alleviate his symptoms and will need a period of rest before starting rehab, training, and skill work. There is every chance he could also be doubtful for the T20I series,".
The report also said that Gill might not play the T20I series against South Africa, which will be next month.
Who will lead in Gill’s Absence?
As far as captaincy is concerned, he is also leading the team from the front in the second Test and has played in just 1 ODI match since last year. Rahul will be the team's preferred wicket-keeper batter.
For just one series, KL Rahul looks more feasible, especially with deputy Shreyas Iyer likely to need two more months to recover from his spleen injury sustained in Australia.
On the team front, Yashasvi Jaiswal may open alongside Rohit Sharma, while Abhishek Sharma — a regular in India A’s List A set-up — could serve as reserve opener for the ODI series starting November 30 in Ranchi.
