IND vs UAE Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav might have done enough to become a strong contender for winning the ICC's Spirit of Cricket Award. The India skipper showed brilliant sportsmanship as he decided not to appeal a UAE batter in their Asia Cup 2025 tournament opener on Wednesday.

The incident happened during the 13th over of the first innings, where Junaid Siddiqu was stumped as he had unknowingly stepped out of the crease while trying to smash a bouncer in Shivam Dube's over. Siddique had got distracted and was seen telling the on-field umpire something, and that's when he tried to overstep the crease. Taking advantage of the situation, India's wicketkeeper Sanju Samson quickly removed the stumps and made a huge appeal for the wicket.

The third umpire was then called, and in the replay, it was shown that Siddique was outside the crease after the stumps were removed. The decision of OUT appeared on the big screen, but Siddique stayed at the crease as he saw Suryakumar Yadav getting involved in a long discussion with the on-field umpire at the non-striker's end. Later, it was revealed that the visitors had withdrawn the appeal and had let Siddique continue his batting.

 WHY INDIA WITHDREW THE APPEAL

Suryakumar Yadav withdrew the appeal after realising that Siddique was distracted after Shivam Dube's towel had slipped from his waistband while he was taking his run-up. The television cameras showed the incident where Siddique got distracted, and he had also warned the umpire. The visitors were right in appealing, but Suryakumar showed the much-needed sportsman spirit by withdrawing the appeal.

But Siddique couldn't take advantage of his lifeline as Dube took his wicket during the same over by bowling him a short-pitched delivery.

India skittled the host out for just 57 runs. Dube took three wickets in the two overs that he bowled. But Kuldeep Yadav was the pick among the bowlers as he took a four-fer that also included three wickets in one over, where he also dismissed Muhammad Waseem, who had scored 19 runs off 22 balls.
