India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup: The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) attempt to invoke the 'Force Majeure' clause to pull out of the India-Pakistan World Cup match has been met with resistance from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which sought clarification on the grounds for withdrawal.
As per Cricbuzz, in response, the PCB has reached out to the ICC for a dialogue to settle the issue, following an initial rejection of their justification. In a last-minute action, the ICC and PCB are set to hold talks regarding Pakistan's participation in the India match.
The global body's warning of potential damages and sanctions prompted Pakistan to seek a negotiated settlement and avoid a possible penalty and the PCB's attempt to invoke 'Force Majeure' has led to a high-stakes negotiation with the ICC.
The ICC has pushed Pakistan for clarity on its Force Majeure claim, adding pressure on the PCB to explain its judgment to pull out of the India match.
The controversy began when Pakistan formally notified the ICC of its decision to boycott the match, invoking force majeure and citing a government directive.
