Indian veteran speedster Mohammed Shami is currently representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 after getting snubbed from the national side for two years. After the BCCI included Bhuvneshwar Kumar in India's squad for the T20I series against New Zealand, there were speculations that Shami would also be included in India's squad for the ODI series or Test against the same opponent.

However, he was not included in the squad despite his outstanding domestic performance. After getting snubbed from the side, Shami said that he is focused on performing well and sharpening his skills.

"I'm always positive and focused on performing well in every match I play. I want to keep playing as many matches as possible because that helps me maintain my physical momentum, improve my game, and sharpen my skills. That's what I'm focused on right now. What more can I do than keep playing and giving my best?," he said.

Shami also revealed that he stopped checking social media as the superstar speedster wants to invest his energy and time in practice sessions.

"I'm focused entirely on my own game and don't really concern myself with what others are doing. My priority is to fulfil whatever the team and the game demand of me. I've also completely stepped away from social media, as I don't like spending too much time browsing it. Instead, I'm focusing on being on the ground, putting in the hours during practice sessions, and playing as many matches as possible this season. That's where I want to invest my time and energy," said Shami.

Mohammed Shami last international outing

Mohammed Shami's last international outing came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India defeated New Zealand in the final to clinch the title at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Shami picked up nine wickets in five outings of the marquee event.

India's schedule against New Zealand

India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series against New Zealand followed by the same number of ODIs and three Test matches. The series opener will take place on October 22.
