India vs West Indies 1st Test Result: A dominant show by the Indian bowling unit on Saturday rattled the West Indies batting line-up, with the visitors bundling up for 146 shortly after lunch, conceding the first test match by an innings and 140 runs. Ravindra Jadeja proved to be an absolute menace with the ball on day 3, ripping through the West Indies top-order to claim four crucial wickets.

Mohammed Siraj (3 wickets) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 wickets) also had their share of contributions, securing a comfortable win for India and putting them 1-0 ahead in the two-match series.

Trailing by a massive 286 runs after India declared their overnight score of 448 for 5, West Indies batters could not even match up with their performance in the first innings, and fell like a pack of cards once again. India's spin attack, led by vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja, received the necessary assistance from the pitch in the morning, with spinners removing seven West Indies batters.

"Honestly, I think this was the perfect game for us. Three centuries, and we fielded really well so no complaints," skipper Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Gill further said that he was spoilt for choice. "When you've got quality spinners like them, it's difficult to rotate them. It's good to have too many options rather than not having options. That's the fun of playing in India," Gill said.

"You know there will always be someone who will be out there, ready to get the job done for the team. The entire team and the young team came out with flying colours," the skipper added.

India began the day by declaring with a lead of 286 runs, and that was enough on board to get a comprehensive win over the West Indies, who were quickly reduced to 46/5. Though Alick Athanaze (38) and Justin Greaves (25) offered brief resistance via a 46-run stand, it wasn't surely enough as they were bowled out for 45.1 overs in their second innings.

West Indies' batting lasting for just 89.2 overs across both innings is a stark reflection of their long-term struggles in the longest format. With their bowlers struggling to challenge India's top order, the West Indies face an uphill task to regroup and put up a better show in the second and final Test in New Delhi, starting on October 10.

Jadeja's memorable unbeaten 104, Dhruv Jurel's maiden century and KL Rahul's composed hundred laid the foundation for India's massive first-innings total of 488/5 in a dominant Test for the hosts, especially after suffering a 3-0 series loss to New Zealand at home last year.
