The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is making headlines as respective team franchises and fans around the world are excited to see new players in their squads. While the official notification is yet to be released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the word on the street is that the auction might take place in Dubai.

The tentative dates are set between December 15 and 19, which will be just after the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction, with December 9 being the expected date. Unlike the IPL, the venue for the WPL auction is likely to be in India, but the specifics are yet to be confirmed by BCCI.

Last year, there was consideration of holding the auction in Istanbul, but Kochi was eventually chosen. This time around, Dubai seems to be the front-runner as per the report by Cricbuzz. While this plan might still be tentative, all IPL franchises have been made aware of the possibility.

The end of the three-year window brings uncertainty regarding player exchanges among franchises. High-salaried players who had limited impact in the last IPL season could potentially be released, adding a layer of excitement to the upcoming auction.

On the other hand, the WPL is also in the mix. The BCCI is yet to reveal the venue and dates to team owners. Speculation suggests that the league might be scheduled for February this year, unlike last year when the tournament was held in early March.

The IPL 2024 is expected to make its return in April, just before the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the West Indies and United States from June 4.

IPL 2023 auction for the 16th edition of the marquee tournament was organised by the BCCI on December 23, 2022. In last season's auction each of the 10 franchises participating were given the potential to form squads of up to 25 players. IPL 2023 auction was a single-day affair as opposed to previous editions. The same pattern is expected to be followed this time around as well.
