Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a great outing at their home venue against Gujarat Titans as Yash Thakur claimed a fifer to defeat the visitors by 33 runs in the ongoing IPL 2024 clash on Sunday.

Defending a 163-run total, Yash returned with the figures of 5-30 in his 3.5 overs while all-rounder Krunal Pandya bagged three scalps to bowl out Gujarat Titans for 130 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The home side suffered an injury scare when pace sensation Mayank Yadav walked off the field with a side strain just after bowling his first over in the match in the powerplay. The 21-year-old speedster did not return to bowl again in the match. After the conclusion of the match, Krunal gave an update on the pacer and said he looked okay during his brief chat with the bowler.

"I don't know what is happening, but I had a couple of seconds with him, he seems OK," Krunal said on Mayank's injury in the post-match presentation.

He further heaped praise on the bowler as he picked up picked three wickets each in his first two matches and bagged Player of the Match accolade on both occasions. He also bowled the fastest delivery of the season with a rocketing speed of 156.7 kmph.

"He is a bright prospect, bowled gun in the nets, last year missed out. Good head on his shoulders and unbelievable prospect and interesting to see how he will pan out in his career," Krunal added.

On his 3-11 bowling performance, Krunal said, "I like to know the batters' strengths and weaknesses, try to bowl according to it. It comes off some days and it doesn't some days. I back my strengths and stuck to my plans, one of those days I executed what I wanted, tonight it came off. It feels great to defend this score, the way we have defended even last year."

"When I went in, I played a couple of balls, I had a chat with Pooran as well, the wicket was very good. We felt that we were 10-15 short but at the end of the day, that's what we got, so we had to defend," the all-rounder added on LSG's batting display.

Batting first, Marcus Stoinis' 58-run knock coupled with Nicholas Pooran's unbeaten 33 guided LSG to 163-5 in 20 overs.

In response, the Gujarat Titans' batting unit faltered against the home side's bowling line unit and ended up scoring 130. GT captain Shubman Gill top-scored with a knock of 31 runs while Rahul Tewatia scored 30 runs but failed to take their side over the line.

With six points in four matches, LSG moved to the third spot in the points table while GT are placed at seventh place with four points in five games.

LSG will next host Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 clash in Lucknow on April 12.
